Sorry for the slow reply – hope you figured out a solution! We actually stayed downtown after the catamaran tour and moved to Maderas after that ;) For future reference, I think the best way is taxi, but if you had success another way please feel free to let us know :)

Looks like an amazing time! I am heading to Nicaragua next month and we are staying at Playa Maderas. I noticed the shuttle schedule only goes until 5pm to get back from SJDS. Is there an alternate way to get back after you took the catamaran tour?

So much more so than San Juan del Sur. We stayed three nights at the Casa Maderas Eco Lodge with a great pool and restaurant and a different range of accommodation – we were travelling on a budget so stayed in a dorm. We got to release baby turtles into the ocean two nights for free with the Lodge too – amazing. I loved walking between the beaches too :)
