Hi Mary – We went as a day trip, so we didn’t need a local hotel. We typically only recommend hotels we have stayed at personally. Perhaps there were no crocs on the section we went on? Not sure, but definitely don’t think I would have enjoyed bobbing down the water as much if I had known that there were crocs below ;)

Another comment…you have not mentioned one hotel or beach resort in Punta Allen at all!! and by the way I don’t own one so am not promoting… just being honest.

A very lovely and almost accurate protrayal of Sian Ka’an… but I live in Punta Allen in the Sian Ka’an and don’t believe there are no crocodiles… they sun on the banks in the late afternoon …I am talking about the route that is taken to get to the pueblo of Punta Allen…. the only pueblo in the Sian Ka’an…..there may be other canals they are taking you down…. don’t let this disuade you as it is a marvelous place to visit and live in…..except the town has had no water for a week as the fellow who looks after it is on holidays, and they don’t fill anyone else in so has been a hardship for this old lady. But this is Mexico and that is all you can say..and we say it very often! They haven’t got it all together yet but are working on it…. but there are crocs!!! I have been living here for 7 years now!
