Your adventures seem amazing!

My husband and I are seriously thinking of driving a truck/camper down to South America from Seattle.
My only hesitation is the safety in traveling through Mexico,El Salvador, and Honduras as well as sleeping in our vehicle at night.

Any tips for safety or any encounters you ran into?
Did you ever feel unsafe sleeping in your at night?
