The image is of a 13 year-old monk in training we met in a small wat outside of Kampot, Cambodia. He had just finished showing Steph the proper way to pray to Buddha and was very curious about the both of us. His English was quite good, as he was studying it at the monastery. After showing us a little more of the temple he went on his way with his friends.

We totally agree! Aren’t Steph and Tony awesome!
It’s hard to believe he’s just 13 years old! So much maturity for such a young man. Beautiful photo!

You’re so right! He looks much older. We are trying to get better at pictures of people we meet while traveling. This is some pretty good inspiration!
love the photo… I have never tried striking a conversation with a monk… hmmm.
i think it’s ok right? Afraid I’m not knowledgeable of the restrictions.
That reminds me to Google that.

That’s a good question. He seems to be pretty happy about it :-) We’ve never tried talking to a monk either.
Great shot! Seems to be way mature than 13! Looks like he enjoys the attention of the camera.
I agree-I was shocked to read he was so young! He looks so serene and confident, and I also think he was enjoying the camera :-) It is such a beautiful photo- we’re inspired to photograph more people now!
