Our trip to Indonesia was over 2 months ago, but I still can’t get over how beautiful it was! Just another white sand beach as we were driving along the mountainous coast of Lombok, Indonesia. If you’re looking for somewhere with a better beach-to-tourist ratio than Kuta, the island of Lombok is the place for you.
I was actually really lucky to catch this photo while we were cruising along! I had been shooting from inside the car and just wasn’t getting what I was looking for. With plenty of sunlight I was able to keep the shutter speed fast enough to keep up with the swerving roads and the ISO low enough to keep it clear. Finally I stuck the camera out the window around a blind turn. When I looked at the feedback screen, I was amazed at what had been hiding around the corner.
That is a very good shot I have to say considering it was taken from a car while moving, well done!
How was driving around Lombok? Is it possible to visit it without having to rent a car?

We actually just took that picture in our transfer from the ferry station to our hotel, but it is definitely possible to get around without renting a car. I think scooters are the quickest way, but rickshaws and taxis are everywhere too. Thanks for the kind words!
We went both Bali and Lombok one trip and even though we enjoyed what Bali had to offer… we loved Lombok sooo much more. Did you guys make it to the Gili Islands?

I wish now we would have had more time in Lombok-we saved it for the end, and because we kept extending our stay in Ubud, Lombok got the short end of the stick. We went to Gili Meno, and loved it. Definitely understand why it gets the nickname ‘honeymoon island’, because it is so quiet! It’s breathtaking though :) Have you been to the Gilis?
We’re heading to Indonesia in a week and can’t wait! Lombok was on our list of places to go and from your description it sounds like it would be stupid to miss it – any tips on places to visit in Lombok/Indonesia?
I’m super jealous you’re going to Indo so soon! How long will you be there? We spent the majority of our time in Java, Bali and the Gili Islands. Lombok is nice because it is a super toned down version of the often overcrowded Bali. We did love our time in Bali and would definitely recommend Ubud and the Bukit Peninsula. Just try to avoid Kuta :-p (more tourists than locals, even in the “off season”). We unfortunately didn’t get to explore too much of Lombok-it was at the end of our trip, so we splurged at a stay at Qunci Villas. HIGHLY recommend it if you want a bit of boutique resort luxury.
We just arrived in Jakarta a couple of days ago, we’re just getting some vaccines and visas sorted before we head off to Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Solo and then head to Bali. We have a 60 day visa so we’re going to try and make it down as far as Flores before we fly to the Philippines in July. Thanks for the recommendations, we’ll be sure to check those out; I’m really excited about seeing Mount Bromo, Komodo dragons and visiting Ubud!

Sounds amazing! 60 days sounds like a good period of time, too. One month was way too short to even see all of Bali! Look forward to checking out your blog and seeing how you like it all. We didn’t get to do Surabaya and Solo, so maybe we can get some tips from you for our next trip :)
