The Ultimate Him And Her Paris Packing List

The Ultimate Him And Her Paris Packing List

Paris is easily one of our favorite cities in the world. Our most recent visit to the magical City of Lights was when we were completely nomadic—and living entirely out of our backpacks. Paris was still just as magical as could be, but since we were pretty much coming from the Arctic, that meant we didn’t quite have all the right clothes and accessories we normally would have packed… That said, due to the popularity of our 50 Cool Things To Do In Paris article, we regularly receive quite a few Paris packing questions. So, here you have it: our ultimate Paris packing list for couples. If you’re wondering what to pack for a trip to Paris, then this post should do the trick. Our Holiday Gift-Giving Guide For The Stylish Adventure Traveler

Our Holiday Gift-Giving Guide For The Stylish Adventure Traveler

As we’re writing this gift-giving guide from hot and sunny Costa Rica, it’s hard to believe that the holidays are just around the corner. So far all we’ve done to get ourselves in the holiday spirit is partake in an obligatory viewing of Love Actually, my favorite Christmas movie of all time. Luckily in one week we’ll be back in good ol’ North Carolina, at which time I fully plan to binge on cookie baking and carol singing. If things get really crazy, we might even make a gingerbread house. And if all that fails to get us festive, then we’ll have our NYC getaway over Christmas and New Years Eve to do the trick! With Christmas shopping in full swing, we decided to join the blogging masses and craft a custom A Cruising Couple Holiday Gift-Giving Guide. If there’s a stylish adventure traveler in your life (or really any type of globetrotter you care about) then we’re sure there’s something on this list they’d be thrilled to receive! Note: We were not contacted by or compensated for including any of these products in the list. Some links are affiliates, which mean we receive a small percentage of any purchase at no extra cost to you. We’ve only selected those items we would love for Santa to personally deliver to us.     For The Active Traveler     GoPro We’ve been lusting over all of the GoPros since we first began travel blogging. We’ve yet to invest in one ourselves, and we’re really not sure why. It’s an essential for any traveler who regularly finds themselves immersed in...
Minuteman MM02 DLC Watch Review

Minuteman MM02 DLC Watch Review

“Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.” ~ Harvey MacKay   I hate being late. I’m one of those people who always wants to arrive at the airport exactly three hours before my international flight. I speed-walk whenever we are meeting someone, even if I know I have plenty of time to arrive. And I always wear a watch.   But due to the nature of our travels, and the fact that we never really know where we’ll be adventuring next, it is important to me to have a watch that is durable, simple and reliable even under the most averse conditions. So when I was asked to review the Minuteman Liberty Watch, I was immediately intrigued.   The MM02 DLC or “Liberty” watch was obviously built to last. With a sleek Stainless Steel DiamondBlack DLC coated case and crown, it’s tougher than it looks on first impression. Beside the standard vacuum test that most brands perform for testing water resistance, Minuteman also tested the watch’s water resistance down to a depth of 300 meters (even though the MMO series is rated for only 200 meters.) On top of that, Minuteman also conducted a humidity test on the watch that meets Rolex standards. We have the perk of spending a lot of time in hot, sticky, humid climates, which is great for getting a tan, but not so ideal for our electronics and gadgets. It is reassuring to know that this watch...
Epiclist App Review | Adventure Travel Bucket List Inspiration

Epiclist App Review | Adventure Travel Bucket List Inspiration

It’s no secret that we’re adventure travel enthusiasts. We spend a ridiculous amount of time researching off the beaten track places and activities in a quest for those adventures that are just so awesome, you might even call them epic. Well, it turns out there’s an app for all that research we’ve been doing. It’s called Epiclist.   What is it? Epiclist is an app that lets you follow the journeys of your friends and ‘heroes’ as they share their unique adventures from around the globe. Whether you’re into hiking, surfing or just exploring, use the app to get inspiration for your next trip from those who have gone before you. You can also upload your own epic stories along with pictures and maps to motivate others to follow in your footsteps. Basically it’s like a filing cabinet for your bucket lists, with a special emphasis on adventure travel. You’ll find inspiration from ‘heroes’ like National Geographic’s Alastair Humphreys, Pro-kitesurfer Susi Mai, and your very own A Cruising Couple, as well as ideas for epic trips from the thousands of users in the app community.   How does it work?   To create your own adventure: Sign up and create your profile. The orange ‘+’ button at the bottom of the screen allows you to add a new journey. You’ll have to include the destination, a title, and a description about the journey. In order to convince others that your journey was as epic as you claim, you can add a photo (you can choose one from your own photo gallery or search through 500px and Flickr.) The final...
North Face Resolve Insulated Jacket Review

North Face Resolve Insulated Jacket Review

When we started planning our arctic adventure to Lapland, we knew we would be in for a big change in climate—especially after spending the last winter in Vietnam, Costa Rica and Mexico, where we successfully managed to avoided winter weather completely. Needless to say I was a little nervous I would be horribly unprepared for temperatures below freezing, thoughts of frostbite and endless nights shivering uncontrollably running through my head. So with our flights booked to Stockholm in the dead of winter and nothing but swim shorts and suntan lotion in my bag, it was time to get some legitimate cold weather gear.   Enter the North Face Resolve Insulated Jacket.   I wore this jacket literally everyday for 2 months while traveling through Lapland—and I loved every second of it.   The first test was exploring the city of Stockholm. Casey and I love wandering through cities by foot, but it takes a good bit of insulation to walk around a city for 4-5 hours and stay warm and comfortable. The insulation in the North Face Resolve Jacket did a great job of staying warm and breathable, without feeling too bulky.   But Stockholm was child’s play compared to what would come next: the Arctic.   We threw everything at this jacket, from cross-country skiing to snowmobiling, even ice fishing and dog sledding. The North Face Resolve Insulated Jacked held up strong. I’ll have to admit I am not a very graceful cross-country skier. There were a couple of times I ended up on my back, but the jacket kept the snow out and the warmth in throughout the...
Introducing Trover: The app every traveler should have

Introducing Trover: The app every traveler should have

We’re pretty new to Smartphone technology. We just got our iPad last year and—try not to gasp—we got our first iPhone this past Christmas of 2013. True story. But we’re making up for lost time. Since the purchase of our iPad, we’ve discovered just how valuable some apps can be for travelers. In particular, there’s one new website and app that is quickly proving to be our favorite: Trover.     So what is it? Trover is a visual guide to ‘the best of everywhere’. See the world through gorgeous photos posted by savvy travelers who have been there. Discover hidden gems for your next trip. Upload your own photos and travel tips and then receive recognition for those discoveries. But that’s just the start.   We’ve been using Trover for a couple of weeks now. Here are five things we already love about the app:   1. It’s a great source for travel inspiration. Trover has some seriously awesome travel photography from everyday travelers around the world. We’ve spent hours scrolling through snapshots of beautiful places, adding new destinations and activities to our travel bucket list. It’s easy to lose yourself on Trover, but you’ll come back with new inspiration for your travels and photography.   2. Get insider travel tips   Not only does Trover lead to travel inspiration, it provides valuable insider travel tips. Learn about food, culture and activities you won’t find in any guidebook. When someone uploads a photo to Trover, they include a brief description along with the exact location. We’ve learned about fantastic restaurants—and the best dishes on the menus—here in...
