How To Find Deeply Discounted Hotel Rates With Sears Vacations

How To Find Deeply Discounted Hotel Rates With Sears Vacations

This post is sponsored by Sears Vacations     We love learning about free resources to save money on travel, specifically when it comes to hotels and accommodation. I mean, who doesn’t want to get the cheapest price possible when booking their hotels? Most people think that if they head to sites like Expedia, they’ll automatically get the cheapest rate possible. However, that’s not always the case. If you know where to look, you can get insider deals and discounts far lower than any advertised price. So when Sears Vacations approached us to take a look at their free hotel search engine—promising prices lower than any other third party booking site—we were immediately intrigued. And after a bit of time tinkering around in the booking engine (and using it to make hotel reservations for our own upcoming trip), we can say from experience that they have the best prices around. Some of the hotels we found with Sears Vacations were discounted by 39% when compared to other booking sites. That’s worth taking a look at! If you’re interested in a free and easy way to rack up savings on your upcoming travels, we recommend checking out Sears Vacations free member pricing. Here’s everything you’ll need to know:   How To Save Money On Hotel Reservations Through Insider Pricing     The key to accessing discounted rates with Sears Vacations is to sign up for a free membership. If you just head to their website and search through their hotels as a ‘guest,’ you’ll see the same prices you would find on any third party booking site. However, sign...
White Water Rafting The Rio Pacuare, Costa Rica: An Epic Two-Day Adventure

White Water Rafting The Rio Pacuare, Costa Rica: An Epic Two-Day Adventure

This post was last updated on March 10th, 2017It was 5:00 am on a Friday morning, and I was terrified. I was on my way to the Rios Tropicales operation center to begin a two-day white water rafting adventure down the Pacuare River—considered by National Geographic to be one of the best destinations for rafting in the world.     While normally this kind of travel experience would be right up my alley, this time around I had some hesitations…   Last time we went white water rafting, while I admittedly had a blast, there was also a bit of a scare. Basically, rocks shifted in the river, our raft unexpectedly flipped and everyone got catapulted from their seats. I somehow ended up underneath the raft, in the water, pinned near a rock. When Dan came up and saw everyone from our raft floating down the river except for me, he immediately came and lifted the raft off me. It all happened extremely quickly and thankfully without injury, but it was enough to put me on edge the rest of the way. Particularly as it had been Dan (not our guides) who noticed I was missing from the group (and likely underwater.)   This time around, I would be setting out for our white water rafting adventure with a different (and extremely reputable) tour agency, as well as our friends My Tan Feet. However, Dan wasn’t coming along for this one. As a result, I was a bit on edge about the entire idea of white water rafting down world-renowned rapids that very well could send me flailing into...
8 Awesome Tips To Find Cheap Flight Deals Today

8 Awesome Tips To Find Cheap Flight Deals Today

This post was last updated on October 24th, 2016 One of the biggest obstacles that keeps most people from traveling more often is high flight prices. We totally understand. As much as we always want to hop on the next plane to anywhere, it’s not easy to justify hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars on tickets to faraway locations when we could better explore Costa Rica or Central America. Luckily though, we have found numerous ways to travel hack our way to cheaper flights. Here are a few of our top tips:   8 Awesome Tips To Find Cheap Flight Deals Today Stay one step ahead of the game with these 7 tips and never miss out on another flight deal again.   1. Be Flexible The more flexible you can be, the more likely you are to find the best deals. Prices can vary dramatically just by choosing a different arrival airport, or postponing your trip for a day. Search for flight tickets before you even begin to plan your trip. This way, you can nail the best flight deal, and then plan your trip around it. But this doesn’t just go for dates, it also works for location. For example, we recently needed to book two tickets from Costa Rica to Hawaii. We had 70,000 miles—enough for one of us to get there. When we were trying to purchase the other ticket on the same flight, the price was $2800. So, we got creative, and found that we could fly direct from Costa Rica to LA, roundtrip, for $400 each. We could then both get to Hawaii with the miles we had....
A Weekend Escape In Tamarindo, Costa Rica

A Weekend Escape In Tamarindo, Costa Rica

This post was last updated on March 10th, 2017Our first visit to Tamarindo, Costa Rica, wasn’t necessarily a memorable one. We were staying at nearby Playa Grande to witness the giant leatherback turtles that come to shore to lay their eggs. We needed an ATM, so we took a small boat across the croc-infested estuary separating Tamarindo from Playa Grande, got some cash, went to dinner and then headed right back to Playa Grande once more. So after a year and a half of living in Costa Rica, we decided it was time to finally visit one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. And we can say that we were pleasantly surprised with just how much we loved Tamarindo and the surrounding coastline!   Introducing Tamarindo   Tamarindo is a popular surf town in Guanacaste. It’s one of the most developed beach towns in all of Costa Rica, so there’s no shortage of restaurants, parties and hotels. We visited during “green” season, which we would recommend if you’re not keen on sharing the beach with tons of other tourists. Guanacaste is also Costa Rica’s driest region. We’ve heard it can get quite hot and dusty during the dry months—another great reason to visit the region during the shoulder season. We were lucky in that it didn’t rain once during the entire weekend we were in Tamarindo! One of the things we loved the most about Tamarindo is that it’s just one small town surrounded by stunning beaches, national parks, and other attractions. If you’re traveling by rental car, it’s easy to get off the beaten track...
5 Reasons Everyone Needs To Jet Ski In Manuel Antonio

5 Reasons Everyone Needs To Jet Ski In Manuel Antonio

This post was last updated on March 10th, 2017 Jet Skiing in Manuel Antonio was some of the most fun we’ve had since moving to Costa Rica. Dan has a bit of jet skiing experience, but for both of us, it was downright exhilarating to spend a morning out on the picture-perfect waves. Manuel Antonio seems to be every tourist’s favorite spot in Costa Rica, and now we finally understand why so many travelers take to the shores of the national park each year. We have friends and family visiting us over the next few months, and this is at the top of our list of personal recommendations for everyone.   Here are the top 5 reasons why you’re absolutely going to love jet skiing in Manuel Antonio:   1. The Exhilaration     If you’ve ever been jet skiing before, then you know just how adrenaline-pumping it is. But what’s even better, just about anyone (even kids) can do it! This was my first-time jet skiing. I started off a little shaky navigating the waves, but after a few minutes of practice, I was catching air like everyone else. If you’re the type that isn’t too keen on adventures like waterfall repelling or ziplining, but you still want to infuse a little adrenaline into your vacation, this is the one for you. Jet skiing is also an awesome option for the whole family. The tour agency we chose to go through was Manuel Antonio Jet Ski. If you bring your family or gather a group of friends, they will work to send out a private tour with just you and your loved ones. MA Jet Ski said they...
Whale Watching In Costa Rica: A Spectacular Wildlife Encounter

Whale Watching In Costa Rica: A Spectacular Wildlife Encounter

This post was last updated on March 10th, 2017    Sandy, bare-feet sloshed over the muddy coastland. Hands were gently held one-by-one as we were assisted onto a small boat. Then, sitting squarely on individual blue seats, the engine ignited and thrust the boat full of eager faces over the breakers and into open waters. The bright blue ocean lapping in stark contrast against the rugged ginger cliffs elicited a lull over the entire group as we earnestly began our quest for the day: spotting a majestic Humpback whale.     We were heading out into the ocean in mid-October; we were told the whale migration season would culminate in just a couple of weeks, which left many with doubts that we would find anything hiding beneath the vast waters. But of course, only moments into our voyage, we got the call that a Humpback had been spotted just offshore. Our boat raced to the far ends of the Marino Ballena National Park and within moments spotted a few other tour groups bobbing in the water—a promising sign that there was something worth waiting for. We approached slowly; the boat motor turned off and cameras ready to capture the once-in-a-lifetime sighting. Sure enough, after only a few moments more, we caught the first signs of a graceful mother Humpback swimming with her calf.   Costa Rica has been called one of the best places to observe Humpback whales in the world.    Due to their migration patterns, Humpbacks pass Costa Rican shores twice each year. We lingered with the whales for quite some time, taking in the profound size and beauty of the creatures that were voluntarily coming just meters away from our boat.     Seeing...
