Living in Costa Rica is undeniably awesome. But as soon as the holiday season strikes so does our longing for a romantic winter escape. After all, we’re spending the majority of our year in a humid and tropical country, where we’re lucky if a rainy afternoon means putting on a sweater. So it’s hardly any wonder that right around Thanksgiving, we start longing for hot chocolate, cuddling by a fireplace and long days of skiing through a winter wonderland.

With some big travel plans in the works for 2017, it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to make a winter getaway happen soon. But that didn’t stop us from taking a virtual vacation while doing the research for you! Check out our five top suggestions for a perfect romantic winter escape. Or, try a ski holiday in the USA – you can’t go wrong either way!

We’re also sharing a new favorite travel accessory that is now going to be accompanying us on every romantic trip we take. Be sure to check it out at the end!

5 Perfect Romantic Winter Getaways In The U.S.

Berkshires, MA

For excellent skiing and snow shoeing in an idyllic mountain town, look no further than the Berkshires, in Western Massachusetts. When you’re not exploring the picturesque scenery, there’s a modern art scene and plenty of farm-to-table restaurants to enjoy. Try The District Kitchen and Bar for local fare and craft beer. If you’re visiting at Christmas, then be sure to stay at the Blantyre Hotel, which is known for its fantastic decorations and beautiful tree.

Asheville, NC

Asheville is one of our all-time favorite destinations no matter the season. We might be a bit biased since we’re both from North Carolina, but we love Asheville all the same. Asheville typically has mild winters (especially compared to the other destinations on this list), so it’s easy to enjoy the surrounding hiking and city charm without having to bundle up too much. Stop by the Biltmore Estate, America’s largest home, which is magical when lit up at Christmas.

Oregon Coast, OR

If all you want to do is curl up with a good book and a cup of mulled wine while enjoying a stunning view, then a visit to the Oregon Coast should do the trick. The area is known for its spectacular winter storms. In particular, try a visit to Depoe Bay, where the award-winning Whale Cove Inn offers excellent views and luxurious amenities.

NYC, NY

New York

We’ve visited New York City during Christmas and New Years twice, and each time, it was more magical than we could have imagined. Sure, you have to battle the crowds, but it truly doesn’t get any more romantic than exploring New York during the holiday cheer. For any time of year, you’re visiting NYC, be sure to check out one of our most popular posts: 50 Cool Things To Do In NYC.

We’ve yet to visit Montana, but we’ve heard so many wonderful things that we considered moving there at one point. If you’re looking for a winter destination where you can be active non-stop, then Montana is an excellent choice. Soak in the hot springs, head to Yellowstone National Park, ski, snowmobile, dog sled…the options are truly endless!

If you’re pining for a winter escape just like we are, hopefully, one of these destinations will give you the perfect inspiration for a romantic weekend getaway! Of course, if you’re planning a couple’s trip, the last thing you want to bring along with you is morning breath. When the folks at TUNG Brush asked us if we would like to try out their unique tongue cleaning brushes, we were intrigued.

When you’ve traveled to over 30 countries on all different forms of transportation (often the cheapest that’s available) there are admittedly times when you’re not feeling (or smelling) your most glamorous. Not to mention we’re typically trying local cuisine that’s delicious—but doesn’t always leave your mouth the freshest. Stinky tofu, anyone?

TUNG Brush shared with us just how important a clean tongue is for fresh, kissable breath. The world’s first tongue brush and tongue cleaning gel is “formulated to neutralize that nasty bacteria gas that causes bad breath, leaving your mouth minty fresh.”

We were intrigued, but it wasn’t until we started using the TUNG Brush that we were sold on the product. We’ve got to admit; it’s pretty disgusting what comes off your tongue after a day of exploring and eating (which we tend to do a lot of.) We won’t go into more details on this part other then to say that the TUNG Brush is coming with us on all our romantic getaways from now on ;) At just a couple of dollars for the brush and the gel, it’s worth the splurge for the better breath (and health)!

As always, we would love to hear from you! What U.S. destinations do you think are the best for a romantic winter escape?
