So Yoga Teacher Training has officially begun at Blue Osa in Costa Rica. I have literally been looking forward to this moment since mid-January, and now that we’re here, it all feels a little bit surreal. It also feels pretty freaking amazing.
We felt a heavy load lifted off of our shoulders when we arrived at Blue Osa—and it wasn’t just from dropping our overflowing bags into our temporary abode. Within hours of arriving at Blue Osa, we had already heard the signature sound of howlers monkeys calling out in the distance, spotted trees full of rainbow macaws, and stuffed ourselves full with farm-to-table deliciousness. (We’re back here for the yoga, but the evening desserts are a close second.) And though we might not love the bugs or the cold-water showers, we can feel a tangible difference in our energy from being surrounded by the jungle and just steps away from the ocean.
Which brings me to yoga teacher training. It’s only been one official day of the course so far, but I can already tell that this month is going to hugely impact who I am as a person. I think that any type of yoga teacher training is incredibly special, but there is undoubtedly something really powerful about participating in an immersion program.
All outside worries, superfluous to-do lists and non-essential responsibilities have seemed to slip away. And various practices I know I wouldn’t begin at home (like waking up at dawn to use a Neti Pot) are more accessible. But more than anything else, I am so grateful for this sacred space to focus on what yoga means to me—and not just about holding yoga poses or looking ‘instafamous’, but going deeper into the significance of the poses, the breathing exercises and the meditation, and dialing in to how these things can work together to transform our physical, spiritual and mental well-being.
We’ve been compiling a whole slew of Yogi Aaron quotes, but this one from the very first day really stuck:
“We have the power to reshape our character and therefore reshape our life.”
Yoga is a science I have always been interested in, but I can’t get over how incredibly thankful I am to be here right now, tuning in to that science, both for myself and for the ultimate goal of sharing it with others. The fact that I get to do it in paradise is just an added bonus.
After only one day, there are already plenty of things I want to share with you. But since it’s only been one day, I also feel like I need a little bit more time to absorb and process all the information we’ve already received. Next week I want to share more about what teacher training is really like so far, but for now here are a few photos that offer an inside look at what we’ve been up to:

How exciting to hear about the start of your yoga teacher training – what a beautiful place to be doing it as well! Hope the rest of the course goes well! I’ve only done yoga a handful of times, usually during my travels but it’s something I’ve been meaning to try and make more regular.
