We had spent the last week in the wilderness. I mean like the Amazon and the Pantanal kind of wilderness. While these places can’t be beat when it comes to adventure, there were also bugs the size of our fist, frogs in the shower, and unpredictable power outages. And as fun as that was, by the end of the week we were ready for a bit of a splurge. We also needed a place to sit down and get back to work. When we found out that the Gran Odara Hotel was the first 5-star hotel in the business hub of Cuiaba, we knew we had found the perfect match.

Gran Odara Hotel Review

The Gran Odara Hotel is a comfortable, luxurious 5-star hotel in the busy city of Cuiaba. After a long and bumpy ride down the Transpantaneira (more details coming Monday!) we were relieved when the bellmen practically ran over to take our bags, ensuring we didn’t use any more energy than needed to hold ourselves upright. This was something we greatly appreciated, and we noticed from the moment we walked in that every one of the staff was well trained and very attentive to every guest’s needs.

Next it was off to our room. Our superior room was spacious with all the bells and whistles. The room comes complete with a work desk, stocked mini-fridge, extra dining room table with 2 chairs, 32 inch TV and a divine bed. We spent the majority of our time at the work desk and dining table as these made for the perfect work spaces for us to catch up on all of our online projects. The Wi-Fi was free, fast and reliable. The only thing that was missing was a great view. Unfortunately, the window looking out over the parking garage across the street was a little less than inspiring.

The first evening we took advantage of the surprisingly affordable room service. But as good as room service was it just couldn’t compare to our next meal – The Gran Odara breakfast.

Gran Odara Breakfast Buffet

The breakfast spread at The Gran Odara Hotel is as vast as it is delicious. Pastries, fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, cakes and cereals are all laid out for the taking. The wait staff at breakfast was just as friendly as the doormen and were very prompt to serve us tea and coffee as soon as we sat down.

We couldn’t quite find the energy for them, but there are plenty of extra features in the hotel to keep you busy. The hotel’s fitness center is impressive with state of the art workout equipment, a pilates room, MMA classes, boxing and spinning. Looking for something a little more laid back? Take a dip in the rooftop pool, or treat yourself at the in-house spa.

Pros:

The Gran Odara Hotel spares no expense at making you feel right at home in a luxurious and comfortable setting. From the wide-open lobby area to the natural wood decor, the hotel feels relaxed yet sophisticated. The Grand Odara is great for those on business looking for friendly staff and a great working environment with few distractions, save the spa and pool.

Cons:

The Gran Odara hotel is a bit far from downtown and there are few options for food beyond the hotel’s restaurant if you are searching on foot. As we mentioned earlier, the view also leaves something to be desired.
