There’s no doubt about it: Iguazu Falls is one of the biggest tourist attractions in all of South America. As such, there are throngs of hotels and sweeping resorts to choose from all around the city of Foz do Iguacu. But we weren’t really interested in a cookie-cutter hotel purely catering to busloads of travelers. Rather, to accompany the one-of-a-kind experience of visiting Iguazu Falls, we wanted a one-of-a-kind accommodation experience, too. And that’s exactly what we found at Gardenia Boshor Boutique Hotel.
Gardenia Boshor Boutique Guest House is an enchanting bed and breakfast located in a residential neighborhood just a few minutes walk from the city center (and the buses that head to Iguazu Falls). To put it simply, the house is absolutely gorgeous. Immediately upon our arrival, we felt transported back to an era of Portuguese colonialism, both due to the extreme spaciousness of the house and grounds, but also due to the traditionally elegant decor. Massive windows, vaulted ceilings and large open patios were just a few of our favorite details, while the chandelier couldn’t be missed.
Our room was on the second floor following a grand spiral staircase. Everything about the bedroom oozed charm, from the cozy bed and blankets to the hardwood floors to the personal patio entrance. Additionally, each room at Gardenia Boshor Boutique Hotel comes equipped with a mini-bar, WiFi, cable TV, room service, and the most incredible black-out curtains we’ve ever experienced. We didn’t have a private bathroom, but we didn’t see anyone else using the shared bathroom, either. Hugely spacious (like everything else at the B&B), the bathroom included both a bathtub and rainwater shower.
Breakfast each morning at Gardenia Boshor was the perfect way to start our day. Located in a cozy dining nook with mismatched furniture, the spread included various cakes and pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal, breads, cold cuts, juice and coffee. The chocolate éclair cake was easily our favorite indulgence, though it did take a bit to justify indulging in such a rich dessert for breakfast!
Though Gardenia Boshor is an intimate boutique hotel, it doesn’t compromise on any of the details you would expect from a five-star hotel. Just around the back of the house is a lovely lap pool. There are tables and chairs for lounging, and—quite to our surprise—even poolside drink service. Adjacent to the pool is a fully equipped workout room; it’s not extensive in machinery, but certainly has enough to get a good on-the-road workout into your schedule.
Perhaps the most important part of choosing a bed and breakfast is the personalized service and hospitality that accompanies it. Luckily, at Gardenia Boshor Boutique Hotel, that is definitely what we received. The owner is a lovely woman with extensive experience in the tourism industry, so she knows exactly how to make guests feel special and pampered. Each morning she would pop her head in at breakfast to say hello, even though neither her English nor our Portuguese made extensive conversations easy.
Staying at Gardenia Boshor Boutique Guest House (affiliate link) was an excellent choice, and it certainly made our entire stay at Iguazu Falls much more memorable. We would not hesitate to recommend this boutique property to any travelers headed to Iguazu Falls—you won’t be disappointed.
