Poon Hill, Nepal is famous for being one best places in the world to view the sunrise. I got lucky on this day, as the preceding month in Nepal had been uncharacteristically cloudy. My hopes of seeing much of anything from this spot were fading fast, but we spent two nights in Gorephani at the base of Poon Hill “just in case”. The first night rained, a lot. The second night was clear, and I made a mad dash to the top of Poon Hill to take pictures of the stars all night. The following morning brought one of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever seen, complete with the stunning backdrop of the Annapurna mountain range in the Himalayas.

Wow, lovely. I had my hopes dashed like this when I wanted to see the sunrise at Ahu Tongariki on Easter Island… it was so so so cloudy that morning but we waited and waited and then all of a sudden, the sky just came alive, and it was unforgettable.

Fantastic timing with this one as Tony & I are leaving TOMORROW to trek through the Annapurnas. If we’re still feeling strong after making it over the Throng La pass, it’s definitely our plan to make it up Poon Hill and try to capture a shot like this for ourselves!

Great shot. We just spend the weekend climbing the highest elevation in the Caribbean and the sunrise from the top was amazing as well.
